Today, Points of Light launched its search for The Civic 50 companies of 2015. The Civic 50 is an initiative that names the 50 most community-minded companies in the nation every year. Civic 50 companies are the trailblazers for demonstrating how companies can use their time, talent and resources to improve the quality of life in communities where they do business. Since 2012, Civic 50 companies have shown that by strategically aligning purpose with profit they can do well by doing good.

Community engagement is an integral part of business strategy for America’s largest companies, as last year’s Civic 50 rankings illustrate. Findings from 2014 show that:

  • Civic 50 companies are increasing the impact of their community engagement by deepening the involvement of their employees. In fact, one out of every five employee volunteer hours at 2014 Civic 50 companies is skills-based.

  • Civic 50 companies are building and sustaining vibrant communities and are tackling social challenges with greater seriousness than ever before. Their marketing campaigns fight hunger, their products minimize greenhouse gas emissions and their teambuilding efforts clean up beaches.

  • Civic 50 companies are strengthening their competitive advantage with employees, customers and shareholders by linking community engagement with their business functions. Their cause-marketing campaigns drive up sales and attract a new following of socially conscious consumers. Their volunteer programs strengthen employee engagement and skills development. And their community partnerships support diversity and inclusion.

“Community engagement is core to a company’s DNA. When companies excel at this seamless integration, they see growth to key business metrics and lasting change in their communities,” said Neil Bush, chairman of Points of Light, the world’s largest organization dedicated to volunteer service.

Participation in The Civic 50 survey is open to companies with revenue of $1 billion or more. Applications will be accepted through Jan. 15. Results will be announced at the Points of Light Conference on Volunteering and Service in spring 2015. To take the survey, visit Civic50.org
