Ever had a conversation with one of your executives about CSR?  Export Development Canada (EDC), Canada’s trade finance agency, sat down with three of their longest serving executives to capture their thoughts on the company’s CSR journey.

Two of EDC’s Senior Vice-Presidents and its Chief Risk Officer look back over the past ten years on driving a CSR culture throughout the company. “CSR has become a part of our culture at EDC and really a piece of how we do our work,” says Jim McArdle, Senior VP, Corporate Affairs, and Secretary.  “It has really given us a competitive advantage to have a strong CSR reputation and brand, as well as the expertise to assess transactions.”

“CSR has led to a different type of engagement with our customers,” adds Carl Burlock, Senior VP and Global Head, Financing and Investments.  “Just this week, I was in a meeting with one of our global financial partners who was telling me that our technical, social and environmental expertise gives them a lot of comfort when they consider financing transactions in which EDC is participating,” he says. 

Carl concludes that “…and we have a lot left to learn. This is an area that is always evolving. There will be new issues, there will be new markets. We will have to stay sharp on CSR and keep our focus”.
