Cox Enterprises today released its 2014 Corporate Social Responsibility Report, which profiles the company's program achievements as they relate to the environment, giving and people. The report is titled “Actions Speak” and provides an overview of the company and its major divisions (Cox Communications, Cox Automotive and Cox Media Group).

As detailed in the report, Cox built upon existing programs and launched new initiatives in 2014 to achieve the following highlights:

  • Environment: The company launched a new national partnership with Ocean Conservancy, announced a national employee solar program, expanded its supplier sustainability program and presented the inaugural Cox Conserves Sustainability Survey to examine challenges and opportunities among small and medium-sized businesses.

  • Giving: In 2014, Cox companies provided more than $92 million in community support through cash, in-kind and public service announcement donations. The report details signature programs at Cox’s divisions that include community food banks, diversity partnerships, entrepreneurship initiatives, environmental cleanups, mentorships and technology adoption, among others. Cox’s philanthropic arm, the James M. Cox Foundation, provided $15.4 million in grants in 2014.

  • People: Cox is one of only a few national companies to offer a pension plan, 401(k) and access to retiree healthcare. The company’s “Know Your Numbers” (KYN) program helps employees understand and improve their financial and physical health. KYN provides a customized retirement readiness statement to eligible Cox employees and offers free annual screenings to improve health while helping control costs. The company also provides assistance through the Cox Employee Relief Fund.

“We chose the theme ‘Actions Speak’ because it’s important to me that we don’t talk about something until we do the work behind the words,” said Cox Enterprises Chairman Jim Kennedy. “The Cox story is about staying true to values that have been around for more than a century, and this report shows how turning words into action helps shape better communities.”
