Focus on the business case for supply chain sustainability

Submitted by Responsible Business Alliance

A new guide was published today on the business case for supply chain sustainability, a collaboration amongst the Electronic Industry Citizenship Coalition® (EICC®), the Global e-Sustainability Initiative (GeSI) and EcoVadis. The publication includes case studies and an implementation guide that provide a review of challenges and field-tested solutions designed to help companies overcome barriers and improve their triple bottom line. It is designed particularly for supplier-level companies new to sustainability.

“GeSI members have a long history of working with their suppliers to achieve responsible and sustainable practices that have long-term benefits, to both companies and societies. We are confident that the report will be a practical tool for suppliers to identify the business value of CSR for their company and autonomously implement responsible business practices and to gain the benefits highlighted in the report,” said Luis Neves, chairman of GeSI.

“While the supply chain sustainability movement has grown tremendously in the past decades, we need to ensure that all companies – large and small, experienced and inexperienced – have the basic tools to begin successful sustainability programs. This report is a straightforward, step-by-step guide designed to help CSR professionals gain internal and external support for sustainability activities, and ensure those activities yield great results,” said Rob Lederer, executive director of the EICC.

Available in two parts, Sustainability in Real Life: Case studies from the ICT and electronics industries features case studies from seven companies with details about success stories that fellow practitioners can replicate and learn from. Its companion guide, Sustainability in Real Life: An implementation guide for buyers and suppliers, serves to walk readers through program development, implementation and continuance. Both reports are available for free download on the EcoVadis, EICC and GeSI websites.
