Today, on National Teacher Appreciation Day, PENCIL, the New York City–based leader in creating innovative and impactful collaboration between business and public schools, recognized CA Technologies commitment to educators and science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) learning through its Wired for Success initiative.

CA Technologies—a PENCIL partner—made a $1.2 million commitment to support PENCIL’s STEM efforts over a four year period, beginning in 2012. The gift, the largest single commitment in PENCIL’s history, is aimed at helping support schools and students to reach their full potential.

Wired For Success supports PENCIL’s work to bring together businesses and professionals, who volunteer their time and expertise to work with educators to introduce students to STEM-related opportunities, industries and careers. The goal is to help students to develop the skills they need to excel in college and the workforce, and to support principals and educators in meeting school needs and challenges.

To date, CA Technologies support has helped PENCIL serve New York City's schools by transforming the way students learn, teachers teach, and principals lead. This year, Wired for Success is helping to drive the growth of PENCIL’s High-Impact Model pilot and on strategic goal-setting. Volunteers from the business community will join school leaders to identify and measure the impact of identified strategic goals, and demonstrate best practices that can be shared across PENCIL’s network.

The Wired for Success initiative has strengthened PENCIL’s efforts at promoting STEM throughout the city. PENCIL also partners with JPMorgan Chase & Co., Centra/Ruddy, HAKS, Snøhetta and the U.S. Navy to teach students the STEM skills needed to excel in this new economy.

Experts from CA Technologies counseled students from the Global Technology Preparatory School and the Talented and Gifted School. They also helped develop the students’ college and career readiness, and exposed them to a career in IT.

In 2013, CA Technologies took students from the Talented and Gifted School to visit several local colleges. By opening the students up to new potentials and opportunities, and helping them to plan for their future, CA Technologies is making a critical investment in training and developing the workforce of the future.

At Global Technology Preparatory School, CA Technologies helped students broaden their global awareness. As part of its Language at Lunch program, students visited CA’s NYC-based headquarters where they teleconferenced with employees from around the world. Students conversed with CA employees in Spanish, French, Mandarin and Arabic, and learned about diversity in the workforce.
