Whole Kids, Australia’s leading brand of organic and low-allergen kids snack foods, has announced that is has become a Certified B Corporation and a Founding Member of B Corporation in Australia.
Certified B Corporations are a growing group of over 700 ethical and purpose-driven organisations around the world that use the power of business to solve social and environmental problems.
Whole Kids is the first food company in Australia to become a Certified B Corporation, joining the calibre of leading ethical companies such as Ben & Jerry’s, Patagonia, Etsy and Seventh Generation.
To become a Certified B Corporation, B Lab, the non-profit organisation that certifies and supports B Corporations, conducted a rigorous evaluation of Whole Kids to ensure that it meets standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency.
Now, unlike traditional corporations, Whole Kids will join other Certified B Corporations that are required to consider the social and environmental impact of their decisions on their employees, suppliers, communities, consumers and the environment.
Whole Kids founders James and Monica Meldrum created Whole Kids to provide a healthier world and a healthier future for children. Whole Kids belief is that all children should have access to healthy, additive-free food for their school lunchbox and meals.
As James explains, "We seek to change the way families and children experience food and, in turn, experience their world.
“We believe in ‘unjunking’ our lives and that wasteful materialism and consumerism needs to evolve to a more enlightened conscious consumption. Whole Kids seeks a world where businesses contribute positively to a more sustainable, more equitable and more respectful relationship with all stakeholders, not just shareholders.”
From a business perspective, Whole Kids is already being recognised for its ethical positioning, and the benefits are directly translating to sales; in January 2013 the company achieved a 65 per cent increase in sales compared to January 2012.
This is also good news for One Percent for Our Kids, a non-profit organisation that James and Monica set up to improve the health of children and the environment, based on a one per cent contribution of Whole Kids annual turnover.

About Whole Kids
Whole Kids was founded by husband-and-wife team James and Monica Meldrum with the view to nurturing healthy kids and a healthy world. The pair believes in “unjunking” our food and our lives, and that childhood is a precious time that should be protected, nourished and uncompromised.
Whole Kids is recognised as a leader in the organic food industry having received a number of accolades for product innovation, quality and sustainable business practices, including the Food Challenge Awards (Snack Foods), Green Awards Best Kids Company and Monica’s NAB Women’s Agenda Leadership Award.
The organisation only uses 100% certified organic ingredients, and James and Monica work hand-in-glove with organic growers and suppliers to ensure the highest quality products.
Whole Kids commits 1% of sales to a non-profit organisation that James and Monica set up. One Percent for Our Kids works to fund and support projects that improve the health, environment and social equality of children. The pair also created the Healthy Fundraiser for schools and community groups in response to the rising concerns around childhood obesity and unhealthy school fundraising drives that mostly promoted chocolates and donuts.
Whole Kids became a B Corporation because it is a purpose-driven company committed to fundamental responsibilities to people, planet and profit. James and Monica believe that enlightened and meaningful business leadership has the power to drive positive change in the way we live, and the B Corp assessment provides a framework for the pair to measure and monitor Whole Kids performance against its values and commitments.
