(Marketwired) - Wyndham Worldwide (NYSE: WYN), one of the world's largest hospitality companies, has received a gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) program for its newest building on the Company's corporate headquarters campus in Parsippany, N.J. The campus has previously received two silver-level LEED designations, making it the first and only company in New Jersey to hold LEED Certifications in both Commercial Interiors and Existing Building Operations and Maintenance. This latest Gold designation reaffirms the Company's position as a leader in sustainability.

"A tremendous amount of thoughtful planning goes into the design, construction and operation of our buildings," said Frank Campana, senior vice president, corporate real estate and facilities, Wyndham Worldwide. "The upfront investment and commitment to efficiency and environmental sustainability throughout the project not only provides clear benefits to the environment, but also for our stakeholders. Being green is literally 'built in' to Wyndham Worldwide and is a critical piece of our corporate social responsibility."

LEED is a third-party certification program and premier benchmark for the design, construction and operation of green buildings. It uses a point system to determine the environmental merits of a building with four levels of certification depending on how many points the project has earned: certified, silver, gold or platinum.

Wyndham Worldwide achieved Gold Certification for the newest building on its campus through:

  • reducing water use by nearly 38 percent through the installation of water-efficient fixtures and faucets;
  • utilizing landscaping and irrigation systems designed to reduce potable water consumption for irrigation by nearly 85 percent;
  • providing convenient bike racks and preferred parking spots for hybrid and carpool vehicles;
  • providing a NJ Transit bus stop for associates to get to and from the local train station to the Wyndham Worldwide campus;
  • building with regionally-sourced materials and products manufactured within 500 miles of the project site.

Throughout the entire design and construction phase, Wyndham Worldwide incorporated specific strategies and features that resulted in a 16 percent energy savings from lighting, an 18 percent savings from the HVAC system and 74 percent in savings from the use of Energy Star equipment and appliances. These savings represent a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions of 1,667 tons.

New Jersey-based organizations recognize Company's commitment to sustainability
Additionally, the Company recently received the 2013 Award of Excellence for Environmental Quality from New Jersey Business & Industry Association, which honors a select group of New Jersey employers for their outstanding achievements in business expansion, environmental quality, and outstanding employer and public service; and the Suburban Green Project Award from the U.S. Green Building Council New Jersey Chapter for demonstrating outstanding achievement in green building and sustainability.

Recognized as an industry leader in sustainability, Wyndham Worldwide was named to the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index and ranked number one among hotels and restaurants by Newsweek magazine in its annual Greenest Companies in America survey two years in a row.

"We are proud of the ongoing recognition for our work in sustainability, which is the result of the collective commitment and efforts by so many individuals throughout our company," said Faith Taylor, senior vice president, sustainability and innovation, Wyndham Worldwide. "Each designation and award is a great reflection of all our associates, vendors, and business partners, who continue to make a difference for our company, our people and our environment."
