The Shared Value Initiative, a global community of practice for advancing shared value knowledge and adoption, announces a unique new executive education course, Gain Competitive Advantage through Shared Value,” on November 12-14, 2013 in New York City.

This course was developed by Professor Michael E. Porter and Mark Kramer, co-authors of the Harvard Business Review article “Creating Shared Value.” It’s based on their experience developing shared value strategies with companies globally.

During the course, you’ll learn how shared value fits into a portfolio of corporate social engagement strategies, including philanthropy, CSR and sustainability. Via detailed cases, you’ll engage deeply with the approaches and frameworks to identify, build and implement shared value initiatives. A workshop at the end of the course will enable you to structure and tailor a shared value initiative at your company and understand, at a practical level, how to create shared value within your business.

Course Highlights:

  • Instruction by Mark Kramer, shared value thought leader, Justin Bakule, executive director of the Shared Value Initiative, and Valerie Bockstette, co-author of the September 2013 Harvard Business Review article, “Innovating for Shared Value”
  • Insights from corporate leaders who have successfully created shared value at Nestlé, BD, Intel and more via presentations, case studies, and interactive exercises
  • Expert consultation with experienced shared value consultants that will help you design or evaluate your custom shared value initiative strategy for implementation

According to Gary Cohen, executive vice president of Becton Dickinson, who attended the course along with senior business unit leaders, “This shared value executive training course engaged BD’s senior leadership in defining a path for innovation and growth by addressing the world’s unmet health needs.”

The 2.5-day program is designed for mid-to-senior-level corporate executives drawn from a variety of industries and business units. The workshop-style curriculum includes lectures, case studies, videos, interactive exercises and tailored case work—all designed to promote peer interaction and learning. Cost: $5,000. The registration deadline is Thursday, October 10, 2013.
