Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting and U.N. General Assembly Call for Investment, Change

Global health will be a main focus this week for both the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) and the United Nations General Assembly. Global Impact, a leader in global philanthropy, will participate in both events, as well as represent Global Health Council (GHC), serving as that organization’s secretariat.

GHC will host a breakfast for its members and other global philanthropy leaders at the 2013 annual meeting of the CGI. The breakfast will serve as a forum for discussion around creating a shared voice for global health between the private and public sectors. Global health leaders in attendance will also have the opportunity to identify upcoming priorities for the CGI’s Global Health Track.

Also this week, GHC will participate in the U.N. General Assembly to engage global leaders on the needs of the global health community. In partnership with Global Health South and Action for Global Health, GHC is co-hosting an event at the U.N. General Assembly, titled “The Road Forward: What’s Next for Global Health.” At the event, a panel of experts from GHC and other top global health authorities will review and discuss the current and future state of health-related global policy and implementation around the world.

Since launching its new operating model in January 2013, GHC has achieved an impressive list of accomplishments:

  • More than 40 GHC delegates attended the 66th World Health Assembly, at which GHC sponsored a symposium on the changing landscape of global health.
  • GHC and the Washington Global Health Alliance co-sponsored Global Health Week on the Hill in Washington, D.C.
  • At the Consortium of Universities for Global Health Annual Conference in March, GHC sponsored a special panel on forging strong relationships between faith and secular global health programs.
  • Forty-five members and supporters of GHC participated in an interactive advocacy webinar on the congressional budget – the first of a four-part series.
  • GHC has launched a new digital hub that features guest blogs, videos and member spotlights.
