WasteZero Announces B Corp Certification

Published 09-16-13

Submitted by WasteZero

WasteZero, the leading provider of waste reduction programs in the US, today announced that B Lab, a nonprofit organization that uses the power of business to solve social and environmental problems, has recognized the company as a Certified B Corporation™ (B Corp).

Certified B Corporations meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance and build collective voice through the power of the unifying B Corporation brand. Unlike traditional corporations, Certified B Corporations are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions not only on their shareholders, but also on their stakeholders (e.g., the community, the environment, workers, suppliers and consumers).

To become certified as a B Corp, WasteZero underwent a rigorous and detailed investigation of its environmental impact, its impact on the communities in which it operates, its business governance and its treatment of its workforce. WasteZero’s full B Impact Report is available to the public here: www.bcorporation.net/community/wastezero-inc/impact-report/2013-08-08-000000.

“We’re extremely pleased to be certified as a B Corp,” WasteZero President Mark Dancy said. “This certification validates our core business model as it has existed for more than 20 years: to use market forces to help towns and cities cut their solid waste volume in half, which saves them tremendous amounts of money and protects the environment.”

WasteZero joins more than 800 Certified B Corporations from more than 60 industries and 27 countries, representing a diverse multi-billion dollar marketplace.

About WasteZero
WasteZero is the leading provider of waste reduction programs in the US. It partners with more than 800 municipalities throughout the United States to reduce the amount of waste that is landfilled and burned, increase recycling and generate savings. WasteZero reduces waste by helping cities and towns implement next-generation bag-based pay-as-you-throw programs, in which residents dispose of trash only in official, pre-paid trash bags. These programs reduce solid waste by more than 44% annually, on average. They also help to dramatically increase recycling rates.

WasteZero uses leading-edge technology to manufacture all of its programs’ supplies, including customized plastic trash bags made in the US from recycled content. Its Retail Store Distribution™ program offers trash bag warehousing, inventory management, accounting and more. WasteZero is based in Raleigh, NC, has a manufacturing plant in Hemingway, SC, and maintains regional offices around the country.
