Symantec Corp.'s 2013 Corporate Responsibility Report, released today, highlights the company's progress toward integrating responsible social and business practices that directly support its global competitiveness. The report complements a year in which Symantec posted its strongest growth results in five years.

With information security and online safety central to its business and CR commitments, Symantec continued to focus on making the world a safer place, particularly for youth. Symantec also showed momentum in creating career opportunities for women in the company and technology field, and reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and other environmental impacts.

“We recognize that our business practices have a direct impact on society,” said Steve Bennett, president and CEO, Symantec. “We have enormous potential to achieve great things – with our business and with our clear and public commitment to corporate responsibility. We’ll continue to redefine our business to ensure we’re the best choice for securing and managing our customers’ information, and we’ll do so in a way that enables us to best serve the world around us.”

The report covers three core areas: “Our People,” encompassing employee satisfaction, talent management, and diversity and inclusion; “Your Information,” including cyber security, online safety and privacy; and “The World,” which covers climate change, responsible sourcing and community investments. Among its top accomplishments highlighted in the report, Symantec furthered its commitment to the Women’s Empowerment Principles (WEP) and took steps to provide more professional development and training for women leaders in FY13. As part of its mission to keep the world’s people and information safe online, Symantec continued to support law enforcement and organizations around the world and release its annual Internet Security Threat Report. Symantec’s dedication to environmental stewardship resulted in more energy efficient facilities and an ongoing reduction in greenhouse gases.

“Some of the issues that we’re focusing our attention on include attracting and retaining more women in technology, managing our carbon footprint as we expand our operations and educating a digital generation about cyber safety,” said Cecily Joseph, senior director of corporate responsibility at Symantec. “We challenge ourselves to continuously improve our performance and refine our corporate responsibility strategy to align with our core business strengths, allowing us to make an even greater positive social impact.”

This report provides updates on Symantec’s progress on previously published corporate responsibility goals, as well as selected additional information relevant to our priority corporate responsibility issues.
