hi Collaborative (hi) is today recognized as one of the best digital health resources in North America, winning a prestigious MERIT Award for Web-based Resources/Tools in the 15th annual Web Health Awards(SM) for its digital health information centre at www.consumerhealthinfo.ca.

The hi Online Health Information Centre beat out nearly 600 competitive entries based on judging by a panel of distinguished experts in digital health media.

Local partners involved in its development and implementation include AstraZeneca Canada Inc., the Mississauga Library System, Trillium Health Partners, and the University of Toronto Mississauga.

“With this award, our Mississauga-based collaborative is sharing the stage with some world renowned healthcare innovators, including The Hospital for Sick Children, Medscape/WebMD, and Johns Hopkins Medicine,” shares Cheryl Miller, Executive Director of hi Collaborative. “It’s a real testament to the commitment we’ve made to curate healthcare information in a way that helps patients better understand their health, connect with programs and share information.”

The Online Health Information Centre provides Mississauga residents with a single point of access to relevant, reliable, accurate and local health information from their home computer or tablet.

“More and more people are turning to the Internet to look for information about their health,” explains Richard Pringle, Board President. “Our Centre targets approximately 60-70% of Mississauga residents who look for health information on the Internet. These online health information seekers, often called ‘e-patients’ are emerging leaders in the transition of patients to participants in their health care.”

“The hi Collaborative is a great example of the potential of working through partnership to drive sustainable progress in healthcare,” says Helen Seibel, Senior Manager, Corporate Responsibility, AstraZeneca. “When we first brought this group together to look at how we could help consumers access information when and where they need it most, we knew there was a need. This award represents a great milestone for Cheryl and her team.”

About hi Collaborative
Incorporated since 2009, hi has evolved from a group of highly committed health care and community organizations in Mississauga with a vision of creating a consumer health information network to a registered charity that has translated this vision into the development and implementation of Canada’s first Online Health Information Centre. The design, development and implementation of the Online Health Information Centre in Mississauga were fully supported by a generous donation from AstraZeneca.
