Equitable Origin (EO), the first stakeholder-based, independent social and environmental certification for the oil and gas industry, has launched its Equitable Origin Standards (EOS) Technical Committee www.equitableorigin.com/about-us/governance/technical. Comprised of experts in governance, transparency, human rights, social responsibility and environmental issues related to the oil and gas sector, the EOS Technical Committee currently has eight members – three EO staff and five independent members. These include: T. Robert Fetter, Yale University doctoral student; Sébastien Jodoin, Lead Counsel, Centre for International Sustainable Development Law & Trudeau Scholar, Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies; Jon McClurg, Vice President, Walsh Environmental; Dean Slocum, President, Acorn International; and Emma Wilson, Senior Researcher, International Institute for Environment and Development.
The EOS Technical Committee is a permanent committee of the EO Standards Board and is responsible for reviewing, developing and ensuring the quality of EO’s standards, assurance processes, and impact assessment. The Committee will guide the development of EO’s policies and procedures related to the EO100™ Standard.
The EO100™ Standard is part of the Equitable Origin™ System, which combines a certification standard with a certificate-based market mechanism to reward leadership in corporate social responsibility in the oil and gas industry and provide choice in the marketplace. Similar to certification programs in other industries, such as forestry, fishery and agriculture, EO is creating a new marketplace for products that support and incentivize responsible oil and gas production.
“Equitable Origin is entering an exciting year as we continue engagement on both regional and international levels and prepare for a standard review process to include public consultations around the world in 2014,” said Soledad Milius, EO’s Director of Standards, Governance & Accountability and Interim EOS Technical Committee Chair. “Our EOS Technical Committee will be the driving force behind aggregating stakeholder feedback and determining the necessary revisions of or amendments to the EO100™ Standard.”
Equitable Origin plans to add several more independent members to the EOS Technical Committee in the coming year. Members will each serve three-year terms.
