Enviro-Stewards' President helped to install a water purifier (biofilter) donated by B Lab for Jogo Regina in South Sudan. This community leader is a disabled single mother who cares for 3 children, 3 grandchildren and three orphans.

Enviro-Stewards Inc. is a true champion of the B Corp community. They serve as sustainability catalysts for industrial, commercial and institutional facilities by helping them increase their profits while reducing their environmental footprints and compellingly improving social conditions.

They accomplish this by assisting with a facility’s most pressing need (economic, environmental or social) and solving this need in a manner that is beneficial to all three legs of sustainability.

For Example, Tim Hortons’ fruit & filling factory needed to reduce their loadings to the sanitary sewer. Rather than constructing an expensive and land intensive biological treatment plant, Enviro-Stewards helped the facility modify its’ production process to reduce effluent loadings by 80% (avoiding the need for effluent treatment). The facility is presently saving approximately $490,000/yr in energy, water, ingredients, surcharge and landfill fees. The facility then sponsored the construction of 40 biosand filters in South Sudan through The Safe Drinking Water Project launched by Enviro-Stewards.

A third party assessment of 27 resource conservation assessments conducted by Enviro-Stewards found that 90% intend to implement all or most of Enviro-Stewards’ recommendations. Collectively, the 439 recommendations would save $5,845,000/yr with 100% ROI (average of 1 year payback). Each year they would also avoid the equivalent of 25 rail tankers of toxics, 103 rail tankers of hazardous waste, enough water to fill 274 Olympic sized swimming pools, enough natural gas and electricity to heat and power 1,640 and 822 homes, respectively, and 10,700 tonnes/yr of greenhouse gases (equivalent to the emissions from 2,258 cars).

Based on its’ track record, Enviro-Stewards now offers performance based sustainability services. In such cases, there is no upfront fee for Enviro-Stewards to conduct its’ integrated utility and waste opportunity assessment, conceptual design and economic feasibility assessment (development of business case). If the facility chooses to implement the recommendations, Enviro-Stewards will track the resulting environmental, economic and social gains for a period of three years and receive a small percentage of the savings. The quarterly reports of documented savings are also helpful for Key Performance Indicator (KPI) tracking and external reporting as well as for maintaining gains on a consistent basis.

Certified B Corporations are a new class of company that harness the power of business to create economic, environmental and social value. When Enviro-Stewards originally certified as a B corporation, its governance, environmental and social scores were so high that it received an inaugural Best for the World award and was featured in B Lab’s Blog. After completing the current version of the B Impact Assessment and an audit by B lab, Enviro-Stewards’ combined score of 138 again places it within the top 10% of all B corporations.
