Imperative and Purpose Economy today announced a merger and named social entrepreneur Aaron Hurst CEO of the combined venture, which will be headquartered in New York City. United by the common goal to equip organizations with the insights, tools and strategies to better serve people and the world, the company will retain the Imperative brand to serve leaders in the new economy, with PurposeEconomy.com as the destination for the latest news and research on the movement.

"We are at the beginning of the next evolution of our economy as purpose surpasses information as the core driver of our GDP," said Aaron Hurst, CEO of Imperative and author of the soon to be released book, The Purpose Economy.

Imperative was founded in 2012 as a vital partner to leading companies including Etsy, Twitter and Elance. Working with leading academic institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania and Harvard, Imperative developed tools and strategies to discover, measure, and increase employee and community well-being.

"Imperative’s rigorous design and data-driven approach combined with Aaron’s vast industry knowledge and experience uniquely positions us to enable organizations to thrive in this new economy,” said Arthur Woods, co-founder of Imperative. “With this merger we are excited to be a more effective partner to businesses, governments and institutions as they seek to maximize the purpose and well-being of the people they serve.”

Aaron Hurst is a globally recognized entrepreneur and authority on social innovation, a close advisor to a number of global brands, and frequent speaker and writer on the development of the Purpose Economy. He founded and now serves as a senior advisor to the Taproot Foundation, where he was the lead architect in developing the $15 billion pro bono service market. The nephew of economist Marc Porat who coined the term “Information Economy,” Aaron is a graduate of the University of Michigan.

With the merger, the combined venture is moving into new offices at 36 Cooper Square in New York City.
