Youth-led non profit Teens Turning Green is hitting the road with an unprecedented initiative called the Conscious College Road Tour. The tour launched at the end of March with great visits to Rice University and U North Texas. On April 11 and 12, we will be hosted at University of Delaware in partnership with the Sustainability Taskforce and student environmental groups.

The Conscious College Road Tour will stop at 15 universities across the country through mid May. Members of the traveling TTG team include Founder/Director Judi Shils, Campaign Spokesperson, Erin Schrode, and Program Director Jonathan Foley along with student campaign members. The two-day campus stops seek to inform, raise awareness, and inspire conscious living with three key components:

The Conscious Information Station: education, sampling, demos, and fun activities.

  • The Conscious Collection: a display of eco, ethical essential items for college life that TTG aims to introduce to campus bookstores and convenience stores
  • Town Hall Meeting: to bring students, faculty, and school leaders into conversation about how to launch FG 15 on campuses and refine the materials collectively

The Conscious College Road Tour seeks to mainstream conscious living as a vital aspect college life through simple, fun, high impact products and practices, while empowering student leaders to develop and implement projects that lead to more sustainable campuses. TTG will work to mentor these young leaders, offer resources and support, and create collaborative global networks of change-makers.

A key visual display during the tour is the Conscious Collection for College Stores, a showcase for ethical lifestyle products that TTG would like to see more accessible on college campuses. “The Conscious Collection is precisely what my peers are asking for – effective, useful, and practical items that are safe, healthy, sustainable AND need to be available on our campuses. It’s tremendously exciting to introduce this collection to universities nationwide,” says Erin Schrode, Co-Founder of Teens Turning Green and 21-year-old senior at New York University.

“We will be visiting many campuses to support the work of powerful student leaders and deepen collaboration with students and faculty, as well as school and community leaders. TTG is introducing Freshman Green 15 and building support in advance of Project Green Challenge 2013,” says Judi Shils, Director of Teens Turning Green.

FG15 is designed to raise awareness about conscious living and mindful consumption among incoming freshman with the electronic FG15 Welcome Packet (Eco Tips for Sustainable College Living, a Back to School Green Packing List, and a Freshman Green 15 Survival Kit). Project Green Challenge is TTG’s eco lifestyle challenge that invites students to go from conventional to eco conscious living in 30 days each October.

"The University of Delaware’s commitment to greening the campus and its community has grown considerably in recent years. Between the Sustainability Taskforce, the Annual Campus Sustainability Day, Students for the Environment and Earth Week, the University’s Sustainability Efforts in Newark have shown that we’re not just blue and gold, but going green. A partnership with Teens Turning Green can help continue our momentum and convince even more members of the community to adopt a conscious lifestyle," said Natalie Stevenson, University of Delaware, Senior.
