Making the Business Case For Sustainability

To help businesses integrate more sustainable practices into the workplace during a time of growing environmental concern, Specialty Studios announced today the widespread availability of the award-winning documentary feature So Right So Smart, an inspiring film showcasing the success of cutting-edge companies that have proven what is good for the environment can also improve profitability.

“As climate change wreaks havoc with greater frequency in cities around the world, businesses of every size need to take a closer look at how their everyday practices might be impacting the environment and what they can do differently,” said Joanne Bohigian, President and CEO of Foster City CA Chamber of Commerce. “So Right So Smart is a visionary film that demonstrates how more sustainable business practices can be good for business and for the earth.”

So Right So Smart, produced by MagicGreen Productions, takes a behind-the-scenes look at the transformation of Interface, Inc., a large global carpet tile manufacturer founded by Ray Anderson, whom the Washington Post called “the greenest CEO in America.” The film follows Anderson’s successful, though often challenging efforts, to turn Interface into a sustainable and more profitable enterprise – with an ambitious goal of eliminating any negative impact the company may have on the environment by 2020.

The film also features a variety of other business leaders including Yvon Chouinard, Founder and CEO of Patagonia; Gary Hirshberg, President and CEO of Stonyfield Farms; Jeffrey Hollender, Founder of Seventh Generation, as well as other prominent sustainability experts and authors, such as Paul Hawken and Janine Benyus.

“As shown in So Right So Smart, Ray Anderson set out to change Interface from a petroleum-intensive industrial organization to one driven by Mission Zero,” said Erin Meezan, Vice President of Sustainability at Interface, Inc. “Nearly 20 years later, we continue to prove that sustainability practices work in harmony with business goals and provide a means to a better profit. Competitive advantages such as inspired employees, ignited levels of innovation and increased profits await any organization willing to embark on a similar journey.”
