GE (NYSE: GE) was recently awarded International Medical Corps’ (IMC) Global Citizen Award, given annually to dedicated supporters who have helped IMC deliver humanitarian relief to communities devastated by conflict or disaster. Since 2006, GE has provided IMC with resources to provide lifesaving services, healthcare training, and medical equipment to communities in 11 countries, including Libya, Yemen, Somalia, Ethiopia and Kenya.

GE’s contributions have enabled IMC to provide safe water and sanitation; to conduct hygiene-education activities; to train community health workers; and to rehabilitate basic healthcare facilities.

Karol Bassim, program manager for International Medical Corps’ Libya Mission, said, “Without IMC supporting this center with doctors, I don’t think these children would survive.” The support, Bassim added, is “all thanks to GE.”

One of IMC’s principal goals is to sustain improvements in care delivery. It does this by effectively engaging local authorities and health ministries, as well as by training local health practitioners and providing health education to targeted populations.

As a testament to the quality of its work, IMC achieves patient survival rates above what is expected in emergency situations, a notable achievement for any NGO working in the context of complex humanitarian crises. These efforts are part of GE’s commitment to improving access to quality healthcare for the most vulnerable and have aided IMC’s mission to foster long-term solutions.
