Alliance for Community Trees ushers in 2013, and our 20th Anniversary Year, with a new President and Board members. David Forsell, president of Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, begins this month a three-year term as ACTrees’ new president.

“We’re excited to have Dave take over leadership at ACTrees,” Says Carrie Gallagher, ACTrees Executive Director. “He brings a wealth of experience working to promote urban forests in communities, and we’re confident he’ll provide a fresh and dynamic vision for ACTrees.”

To learn more about Forsell, his insights on urban forestry issues, and top priorities for ACTrees in 2013, check out our interview with David.

Forsell succeeds Ray Tretheway, Executive Director at Sacramento Tree Foundation. “We’re deeply grateful to Ray for his steady and thoughtful leadership these past three years, which has paved the way for new beginnings at ACTrees,” says Gallagher. Also leaving the ACTrees Board are Riyad Abu-Sharr, Chief Financial Officer, Star Marketing Group; and Scott Fogarty, Executive Director, Friends of Trees.

New to the ACTrees Board of Directors for 2013 are Nancy Hughes, Executive Director, California Urban Forests Council; and Samuel Bishop, II, Director of Education at Trees New York. Bishop is the first recipient of the Marcia Dew Bansley Award, an annual award that provides funding for a representative from an ACTrees member organization to join the ACTrees Board for one year.

Maitreyi Roy, Executive Director, Bartram Gardens, will take on a new role as ACTrees Treasurer. Scott Jamieson, Vice President Corporate Partnerships and National Recruiting, Bartlett Tree Experts, will continue as ACTrees Vice President; and Danielle Crumrine, Executive Director, Tree Pittsburgh, remains as Secretary.

Other continuing members of the ACTrees Board of Directors include Burnell “Burney” C.
