Ideaction Corps joined Representative Sara Feigenholtz, B Lab co-founder Jay Coen Gilbert, and the certified B Corps community for the historic first effective day of the Benefit Corporation legislation in Illinois. Fourteen companies, including Ideaction Corps, registered as legal Benefit Corporations in the State.

Ideaction Corps is an entrepreneurial start-up that earned official B Corp certification in August of 2012. A “general contractor for good,” Ideaction Corps crowdsources consultancies to partner with corporations, foundations, government, and nonprofits seeking to make positive social impact.

"As a business owner committed to doing well and doing good, Illinois just made it a little easier for me to succeed," said Kelly O'Brien, Founder of Ideaction Corps.

Ideaction’s innovative business model means this is no ordinary consulting shop. It’s more like a hub for firms, agencies and freelancers eager to put their talents to work for projects that make a difference. For clients, it’s one stop shopping, streamlined contractor management and the assurance that they are getting an “A” team passionate about their project.

"Ideaction Corps is a new kind of corporation that believes that private enterprise can create public benefit," said Kelly. "It’s not about your tax status, but your purpose and your impact. The magic happens when people come together around a shared vision and use their passion and talents to make a difference."

Benefit Corporations are required to create a material positive impact on society and the environment and to meet higher standards of accountability and transparency. Illinois joins eleven other states including California, New York, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Virginia, Illinois, Louisiana, South Carolina, Hawaii, Vermont and Maryland. Fifteen other states are moving forward for 2013.
