Virtual farmers in Zynga’s new, wildly popular game FarmVille 2 now have another reason to share water with their friends. Today, Zynga.org and Water.org announced a partnership in FarmVille 2 to bring the precious resource of water to those in need.

Founded by Gary White and Matt Damon, Water.org pioneers innovative, community-driven and market-based solutions to provide people across the world with access to safe water and sanitation. Zynga.org is the social impact arm of Zynga (NASDAQ: ZNGA), the world’s leading provider of social game services.

As part of the four week campaign, which kicks off on November 8, Water.org and Zynga.org will offer three limited edition water-themed items for purchase in FarmVille 2. Zynga and Facebook will donate 100 percent of the limited edition item purchases to benefit the work of Water.org in providing access to safe water to communities around the world. Players will be able to support others while helping their own in-game farms flourish by purchasing Water.org themed jerry cans, pumps and sprinklers, all of which will come with valuable in-game water that allows players to grow more crops for animal feed and crafts.

"Our ongoing partnership with Zynga.org is connecting the world with one of the most important issues of our times," said Matt Damon, co-founder of Water.org. "Water is a precious resource. For people without safe drinking water, life is a daily struggle for survival. Zynga is tapping into the power of their network and players to deliver real and lasting change."

Launched in September 2012 and currently the most popular social game on Facebook according to AppData, FarmVille 2 is Zynga’s first social game built entirely in 3D – delivering players a brand new farming experience with stunning visuals, rich characters, new neighbor interactions and a beautiful farm that comes alive with every touch. The game invites players to restore their old family farm, working with friends to harvest crops, raise animals and craft goods, as they bring the farm back to its original glory.

Water.org continues to partner, promote, explore, and launch ideas that engage supporters of the water crisis online. As a result of this partnership, Water.org will have the opportunity to engage with players of Farmville 2 (which today has more than 8 million daily active users and 60 million monthly active users) to gather ever increasing support for solving the water crisis in our lifetime. Last week, the nonprofit was one of 11 organizations included in the Facebook Gifts integration to benefit charities. And next week Water.org will launch its online campaign for Toilet Day, inviting supporters to “Talk sh_t” for the week of November 19th on their social media channels

Zynga.org and Water.org have been partners since 2010, working to educate players and deliver solutions to the water crisis.

“Zynga.org is committed to helping address real world challenges through social games,” said Ken Weber, Executive Director, Zynga.org. “In our previous six campaigns with Water.org, our players have donated a lifetime of access to clean water and sanitation to more than 16,000 people around the world. As they have demonstrated in the past, Zynga players are committed to helping those in need. We are thrilled to continue raising awareness and funds for this global crisis through the new campaign in FarmVille 2.”
