Renewal2, a Canadian early-stage impact fund that invests in businesses dedicated to social and environmental innovation, is celebrating the team at Vancouver-based water and environment data management company Aquatic Informatics, which just won a major contract with the world’s leading water and climate monitoring agency.

The United States Geological Survey (USGS) has announced that it has selected Aquatic Informatics’ AQUARIUS Software for water data management. The deal, with potential revenues of $8 million, will involve centralizing the USGS’ real-time operations on the AQUARIUS platform to optimize efficiency in the storage, processing, and publishing of hydrological data collected from its 7400 stream gauging stations across the United States.

Vancouver-based Renewal2 is a major shareholder of Aquatic Informatics, and collaborates closely with President and CEO Ed Quilty and the leadership team to support the company’s growth and success.

“At Renewal2, we’re not just excited about the size of Aquatic Informatics’ new contract, in terms of the monetary value," said Renewal2 President Paul Richardson. "We are also thrilled about its implications. The USGS is looked at as the gold standard for water and climate data analysis. By successfully competing against the rest of the world for the USGS contract, the company is positioned beautifully to grow in North America and internationally in the years to come. This win solidifies Aquatic Informatics’ position as a leading global provider of innovative water data management solutions."

“We’re hearing from investors every day that they want to invest in successful enterprises that are making a difference in the world, too,” said Joel Solomon, Chair of Renewal2. “Renewal2 has a proven model that is making money by investing for change in companies like Aquatic Informatics – helping to make the connection between money and the values of our investors, while supporting the sustainability and profitability of the businesses we invest in.”

Having accurate information about our water and climate systems is critical to the future sustainability of our world. Aquatic Informatics is focused on providing solutions to federal, state/provincial and local governments, as well as academic institutions, engineering consultants, and hydropower producers who collect and analyze large volumes of environmental data.
