HYGEIA: Telemedicine System Donated to the Island of Tilos

The residents of Tilos will have access to HYGEIA Hospital's top level services through the Telemedicine System that was recently installed on the island.

The System was donated by HYGEIA Group and was installed at the Multidisciplinary Regional Clinic of Tilos by HYGEIA Hospital, in association with the Municipality of Tilos. The technical support was provided by MIG's subsidiary SingularLogic and the Biomedical Engineering Laboratory of the National Technical University of Athens.

The Telemedicine System transfers medical data in real time from Tilos to HYGEIA's Outpatients Clinic. On a 24-hour basis, specialist doctors at HYGEIA will monitor the vital signs of patients, such as heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, body temperature and respiratory rate. Moreover, the System allows direct communication, with image and sound, between the doctors on Tilos and the HYGEIA doctors, while it also transfers the patient's image to the HYGEIA consultation center so that each incident may be treated individually.

The equipment includes a medical monitor similar to that used in intensive care, a portable computer system and a Telemedicine application, which was developed by the Biomedical Engineering Laboratory of the National Technical University of Athens. The application records all communication between doctors, thus ensuring the system's efficient operation.

The equipment was received by the Mayor of Tilos, Ms Maria Kamma-Aliferi, and the Director of the island's Multidisciplinary Medical Clinic, Ms Maria Malisiova, who sincerely thanked the representatives of HYGEIA and SingularLogic for their generous offer.

The General Manager of HYGEIA Hospital, Mr Andreas Kartapanis, stated, "Currently operating for more than 35 years, HYGEIA Hospital has been at the cutting edge of medical technology and science, offering top level healthcare services and sharing its technical know-how and expertise for the benefit of our fellow citizens. The System has been donated to the isolated residents of Tilos, in order to have access to medical and diagnostic services 24/7, 365 days a year."
