IT Services Firm ProtoTest Now a Certified B Corporation

Denver-based ProtoTest has become a Certified B Corporation, joining a new wave of organizations that are using the power of business to solve social and environmental problems.

Certified B Corporations meet higher standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. The B stands for ‘benefit,’ because B Corps are committed to working for the benefit of all stakeholders, not just shareholders. Unlike traditional corporations, Certified B Corporations are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their employees, suppliers, community, consumers, and environment.

ProtoTest was assisted in the process of certification by Denver non-profit CORE and their Catalyst program. CORE matched ProtoTest with a team of MBA students from the Daniels College of Business at the University of Denver. The students helped the company to complete the B Impact Assessment in July and August, with a score of 84.1 points out of a possible 200. The threshold for becoming a Certified B Corporation is 80 points.

The performance standards are comprehensive and transparent.  They measure a company’s impact on its employees, suppliers, community, and the environment.

For ProtoTest founder and President Pete Dignan, this is the culmination of a three year effort. “Unlike some Certified B Corporations, ProtoTest did not have sustainability in its DNA when we founded the company in 1998. But along the way leadership and employees became better informed about the social and environmental challenges our world faces, and about the potential role of business in solving those challenges. We could find no more objective tool than the B Impact Assessment for driving our efforts to transform, and for validating our actions as meaningful. We are proud to be a Certified B Corporation.”
