(Marketwire) - Wyndham Worldwide (NYSE: WYN), one of the world's largest hospitality companies, is giving golf fans a chance to raise funds and support the community through its second annual "Charity of Choice" campaign as part of the Wyndham Championship being held at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C., August 15 to 21. With a focus on improving the lives of children, the Company's philanthropic foundation, Wishes by Wyndham, is the official charity of the Wyndham Championship, and each year supports numerous national and Greensboro charities during the PGA TOUR event.
Starting today, Wyndham Championship attendees can vote at the "Key to Wyn" tent for their favorite local charity of choice. Ten not-for-profit children's organizations are competing for votes to receive a $100,000 donation from Wishes by Wyndham. Each attendee may vote once per day and the organization receiving the most votes by 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 19, will be announced following the Wyndham Championship trophy presentation.
"Philanthropy has always been an integral part of the Wyndham Championship, and over the past five years, Wyndham Worldwide and Wishes by Wyndham has been proud to support many phenomenal local charitable organizations," said Steven P. Holmes, chairman and chief executive officer, Wyndham Worldwide.
Earlier this summer, the top 10 "Charity of Choice" charities were narrowed down from a list of 22 by visitors to the Wyndham Worldwide Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/WyndhamWorldwide) and the Wyndham Championship website (http://www.wyndhamchampionship.com/). The top 10 include:
Charitable organizations participating in the 2012 "Charity of Choice" campaign are non-profit organizations with current 501(c)3 status whose only mission is to improve the lives of children. An organization with statewide or national reach must be able to designate a portion of the winning funds to Piedmont Triad programs in order to be eligible.
In addition to the "Charity of Choice" campaign, Wishes by Wyndham will donate to a variety of charitable organizations during the Wyndham Championship, including the Kevin Harvick Foundation, which works to improve the quality of children's lives and help underprivileged youth find and realize their dreams; the PGA TOUR Wives Association, which was organized to render support and provide assistance to needy children and their families; and each of its three Wishes by Wyndham signature charities. The signature charities include SeriousFun Children's Network, an international family of camps that provide life-changing experiences to children with serious medical conditions, free of charge; Christel House International, a not-for-profit organization with the mission to help children around the world break the cycle of poverty and become self-sufficient, contributing members of society; and Starlight Children's Foundation, which for more than 25 years has been dedicated to helping seriously ill children and their families cope with the pain, fear and isolation through entertainment, education and family activities.
