PeopleTowels is going back to school with a new eco-habit campaign that will save 130 million trees and stop filling landfills with used paper towels.  Launched on the Indiegogo crowdfunding site, People Towels’ Kids 4 the Planet campaign is raising money to give thousands of PeopleTowels along with environmental and cultural lesson plans to kids in schools and clubs around the country.  PeopleTowels are the newest concept in sustainability, an on-the-go, sustainable alternative to paper towels.

With Kids 4 the Planet, PeopleTowels is introducing kids to the decades-old Japanese custom of using personal hand towels rather than paper towels.  The campaign is asking kids to enter a design competition for a new line of PeopleTowels that will be given away to kids in schools, clubs or organizations nominated in the campaign.

The recent popularity of crowdfunding sites has proven an attractive alternative to companies like PeopleTowels that are looking to jumpstart programs or products.  Recent campaigns similar to Kids 4 the Planet have been successfully supported on Indiegogo and helped social entrepreneurs with their positive change projects.

“Studies show that habits formed as children carry into adulthood,” said Linda Lannon, PeopleTowels co-founder.  “In Japan, children bring a personal hand towel to school every day, creating a life-long sustainable habit that doesn’t include paper towels.  With Kids 4 the Planet, we’ll be giving away PeopleTowels and showing kids, our future environmentalists, that even they can make a difference with a simply, eco-friendly change in their daily routine.”

Just like the canvas shopping bags and metal water bottles everyone now carries, PeopleTowels are designed for portability and creativity. The custom-made fabric is absorbent, yet it dries quickly for use on-the-go. The winning design is expected to be a fun, whimsical design that will be printed with eco-friendly dyes, to encourage the B.Y.O.Towel™ habit.  Convenient hangtags even allow kids to clip or loop PeopleTowels to a backpack or belt buckle.
