Social Venture Network (SVN) announces the fourth category of inductees into the SVN Hall of Fame: Fearless Financiers. These six socially conscious, forward-thinking honorees will be presented with the SVN Impact Award on November 13th at the Social Venture Network Hall of Fame Celebration at Gotham Hall in New York City. This event marks SVN’s 25th anniversary and acknowledges those who have broken barriers to create enterprises that benefit investors, employees, local communities and the planet.

Those celebrated as “Fearless Financiers” are Wayne Silby, founder of Calvert Investments, Josh Mailman, founder of Serious Change LP, Amy Domini, founder of Domini Social Investments, Muhammad Yunus, founder of Grameen Bank, and Joel Solomon & Carol Newell, co-founders of Renewal Partners. Silby and Mailman also founded Social Venture Network. These honorees created their own, unconventional approach to the business of finance. In doing so, they made capital accessible to underserved entrepreneurs and communities, and allowed individuals to make informed, values-driven decisions with their funds.

At the Hall of Fame event in New York City, Social Venture Network will celebrate 25 years of connecting, inspiring and supporting influential entrepreneurs who use business to create a just and sustainable world. What began in 1987 as a small group of values-driven entrepreneurs is now the leading network of the pioneers of socially responsible business, including 550 influential and innovative social entrepreneurs and impact investors.

Wayne Silby, co-founder, Calvert Investments, a $15 billion investment management group dedicated to increasing the flow of capital to underprivileged communities. Silby also serves as President of the Calvert Social Investment Fund, one of the earliest mutual funds dedicated to socially responsible investments. Calvert’s leaders believe that individuals, not just institutions, can make investments that benefit those in need, while also earning a financial return.

Josh Mailman, co-founder, Serious Change LP, a global for-profit impact-investing firm dedicated to adding strategic capital to early-stage companies. As a pioneering seed investor, Mailman and Serious Change are focused on ventures that catalyze and support social and economic change. Mailman has made over 80 early-stage investments for social good, for both himself and on behalf of friends.

Amy Domini, founder of Domini Social Investments, a women-owned mutual fund management company specializing exclusively in socially responsible investing and in raising the ethical standards of the companies they invest in. Domini Social Investments was recognized as a “Leader of Change” at the 2011 Global Conference for Social Change.

Muhammad Yunus, founder of Grameen Bank, an international microfinance and community development organization that empowers the poor by providing them with small loans. He won the Nobel Prize in 2006 for the bank’s successes in creating economic and social development in rural and disadvantaged communities. In true SVN fashion, Muhammad has collaborated with fellow members including SVN co-founder and Grameen Board member, Wayne Silby, and his investment management group, Calvert.

Joel Solomon & Carol Newell, co-founders, Renewal Partners, a collection of independent organizations, with a common thread of combining business and philanthropy to work toward a triple bottom line economy. Joel and Carol joined forces to develop organizations that provide investments, grants and collaborations (for entrepreneurs, investors and activists) in support of long-term beneficial solutions.
