Time Warner Cable Partners With 826 National To Change Youth Perceptions Of Math And Science Through Creative Writing

Time Warner Cable’s philanthropic initiative, Connect a Million Minds (CAMM), today announced a new partnership with 826 National as its Commitment to Action at CGI America, a meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative in Chicago June 7-8. 826 National is a network of eight nonprofit centers that work with more than 29,000 low-income students, ages 6-18, to improve their writing skills through a series of innovative programs.

Through this partnership, Time Warner Cable will fund the development of a pilot program that incorporates science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) principles into 826 National’s proven creative writing model. This commitment builds upon Time Warner Cable’s efforts to inspire the next generation of problem solvers by connecting young people to informal STEM learning opportunities. The Coalition for Science After School (CSAS), an existing CAMM national non-profit partner, will assist in developing the STEM aspects of the pilot curriculum.

Ninety students will participate in these action-packed four-week workshops at 826 National locations in New York City, Los Angeles and San Francisco this summer. Lessons will include the science behind ice cream and deep space exploration. They will culminate in the publishing of a chapbook and celebration.
