Energy, transportation, developer, and construction industry innovators will descend upon Los Angeles April 24th to lead the USC Green Symposium. In addition to addressing energy and transportation issues, the 18th Annual University of Southern California Construction Management Association of America (CMAA) Symposium provides scholarships to students entering sustainability-centric careers in architecture, engineering and construction.

"We continue in the USC tradition of developing the next generation of talent that is crucial to insure future industry innovation and leadership helping Californians compete in the larger world economy. With the symposium largely student-run, we are students helping students reach their educational aspirations to the benefit of our communities," said Angela Noah, Symposium Co-Chair.

Highlights include participation by Ron Litzinger, President of Southern California Edison, who will be honored with the Symposium's 2012 Leadership Award for his decades of service with Southern California Edison and leadership providing energy solutions for California. The Ivanpah Solar Project will receive the 2012 Energy Project of the Year from the organization. The project was selected for its innovative approach to partnerships, contribution to job creation in the region and providing a shining example by being the world's largest solar installation, reinforcing California's position as the leader of renewable energy in the United States. Michael Allman, CEO of Southern California Gas will receive the organization's 2012 Green Innovators Award.

Participation from the state and federal level includes newly appointed White House Federal Environmental Executive Jonathan Powers; Dr. Ilan Gur, U.S. Department of Energy Senior Advisor; California Energy Commission Chairman Dr. Robert Weisenmiller and its Executive Director Robert Oglesby.

"The USC CMAA Green Symposium has evolved to unite major players from a wide spectrum of the building, transportation and energy ecosystem – academics, researchers, builders, investors, corporate executives and government officials – to share ideas for developing and deploying the next wave of clean energy technologies and to collaborate on how new energy solutions are built in the United States," Symposium co-chair Caroline Fletcher said.
