Earth Day New York called on the public to do their part, on Earth Day and every day. A call to action to educate themselves about ways to make a difference on the many environmental challenges we face.

The press conference held in Grand Central Terminal’s Vanderbilt Hall launched Earth Day New York’s events and marks the official opening of exhibits taking place in Vanderbilt Hall, Central Terminal’s Vanderbilt Avenue and Times Square. The events are designed to introduce attendees to the many ways they can get involved and engaged on environmental issues and make better greener choices every day.

“New York City has become a global leader for what it means to be ‘green,’ and through sweeping programs like PlaNYC we are building a more sustainable city,” said Mayor Bloomberg. “It’s just as important for New Yorkers do their part and these exciting Earth Day events are an opportunity for us all to build on our City’s progress, and make ‘greener’ choices throughout the year."

President and Executive Director of Earth Day New York, Pamela Lippe spoke about the upcoming events and the Earth Day Organic Indoor Learning Garden, a portable indoor garden for classrooms. She was joined at the conference by John T. Shea, CEO, Division of School Facilities of the New York City Department of Education, who talked about the importance of Sustainability in schools.

Mr. Yoshihide Fujii, Chairman and CEO of Toshiba America, Inc. highlighted the company’s visionary ideas for technologies that could someday help people live in closer harmony with the Earth and talked about their long time support of STEM education of youth. Toshiba will be introducing their new virtual game Smart Ninja at their exhibit in Vanderbilt Hall that will help kids discover eco-friendly innovative ways to build a better tomorrow.
