Quarterly Bulletin on Business & Children Launched in Six Languages

Published 03-07-12

Submitted by Business & Human Rights Resource Centre

Today the non-profit Business & Human Rights Resource Centre launched a Quarterly Bulletin on Business & Children in the six United Nations languages: Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.

This launch issue highlights recent developments worldwide: ranging from children working in harmful conditions in gold mining in Nigeria, to the Chinese Government’s plan to extend paid maternity leave. The bulletin aims to draw global attention to the many ways in which companies impact children’s rights, both positively and negatively.

It also keeps people informed about the important work that a range of organizations are doing on business and children’s rights.  This issue includes entries from:

  • Committee on the Rights of the Child
  • Children’s Rights and Business Principles (a joint initiative of UNICEF, Save the Children and UN Global Compact)
  • ECPAT International
  • ECPAT-USA
  • Stop Child Labour – School is the best place to work
  • CRIN (Child Rights Information Network)
  • World Childhood Foundation
  • Business & Human Rights Resource Centre

Annabel Short, Program Director of Business & Human Rights Resource Centre and manager of the Centre’s Business & Children Portal, said: “Almost all companies affect children’s rights in some way, either through their direct impacts or their supply chains.  We hope that by keeping people informed of activities in this area, and of specific case examples from all regions, this bulletin will help encourage business to respect children’s rights.

If you have suggested additions to the Resource Centre’s coverage of business & children or wish to sign up to receive future issues of the bulletin please email Annabel Short: short@business-humanrights.org.
