The United Nations Association of Greater Boston (UNA-GB) will introduce the first-ever Global Corporate Citizenship honor roll, recognizing Massachusetts-based companies who have signed key principles of the UN Global Compact including the Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) and the Principles for Responsible Management Education (PRME) at Boston’s annual UN Day Luncheon. This will become an annual honor roll on UN Day in Boston as a way to celebrate the sustainable business practices of Massachusetts companies and to raise awareness about how other companies can become corporate citizens on a local and global scale.
The Luncheon celebrates 66 years of work by the UN on peace, prosperity and justice, and engages high level policymaking, business, community, and academic leaders in New England around critical issues of global engagement and foreign affairs. UN expert Gillian Sorensen will give the keynote remarks, focusing on the importance and impact of global citizenship in the 21st century.
WHEN:
Friday, October 28, 2011
11:30 am: Private Reception with speaker and Global Corporate Citizenship honorees
12:30 pm: Luncheon
WHERE:
Boston Harbor Hotel
70 Rowes Wharf
Boston, MA 02110
WHY:
With the current global financial crisis, a drought causing millions to be at risk of hunger, disease, and death in the Horn of Africa, and violent attacks from Nigeria to Norway driving headlines this year, building a strong network of educated and active global citizens and corporations in the greater Boston area is more important than ever.
The Luncheon serves both as a celebration of ethical global leadership and citizenship, and as a direct community investment. Funds raised support UNA-GB’s community and classroom-based outreach in the New England area, serving more than 5,000 students, business professionals and community members annually with programs focused on translating the mission of the UN into local action.
