The Solar Electric Light Fund (SELF), a Washington, DC-based nonprofit working to eliminate energy poverty and combat climate change through the use of solar power, today announced the appointment of Jonathan W. (J.W.) Postal to its board of directors. Mr. Postal is a founder of Main Street Power and currently serves as the company’s Senior Vice President of Business Development and Government Relations. As a fundamental leader, Mr. Postal is a driving force in the company’s future business endeavors, marketing, project level finance, and government relations efforts. Main Street supports public sector and non-profit entities in meeting their fiscal, sustainability, and social development goals through unique financing options and the deployment of solar energy.

“We’re very excited about J.W. joining our board,” states Robert Freling, Executive Director of SELF. “His experience, expertise, passion and commitment to using solar power as a way to create clean energy solutions will greatly help us in achieving our goals. We look forward to closely working with him for many years to come.”

“Solar energy provides a host of benefits when used to overcome energy challenges, particularly in developing nations,” says J.W. Postal. “The ability to provide clean, reliable power to populations who need it the most can solidify their sustainability for generations. I look forward to working with SELF to achieve its mission.”

Currently, SELF’s projects include the expansion of its unique “Solar Market Garden™” drip irrigation system to further its “Whole Village” approach of providing electricity to schools, clinics and microenterprise centers in the Kalalé district of Benin, as well as the installation of over 100 kilowatts of solar power at seven health clinics operated by Partners In Health in Haiti.
