/PRNewswire/ - Today, Siemens announced that it is partnering with the American Cancer Society (ACS) in support of its premier national event to fight breast cancer - Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. The company, a pioneer in the fields of industry, energy, and healthcare, which includes the development of solutions to aid in the detection, diagnosis, and treatment of breast cancer, has become an official ACS National Partner and will participate in multiple walks across the country to raise funds.

"Siemens is working to develop integrated and innovative technologies for healthcare providers who, like the American Cancer Society, are our partners in creating a world where breast cancer can be controlled and cured," said Eric Spiegel, president and CEO, Siemens Corporation. "Siemens breast care solutions deliver a holistic approach to caring for patients - from screening and diagnosis to therapy and aftercare. With these technologies, Siemens is helping clinicians detect, diagnose and treat breast cancer earlier"¦faster"¦and with greater precision."

Building upon the company's long-standing relationship with the American Cancer Society, Siemens and its employees have pledged to walk and donate funds. In addition to being a national partner of the Making Strides against Breast Cancer program, Siemens will be a corporate sponsor at 10 walks across the U.S., including: Atlanta, GA; Sacramento, CA; Orlando, FL; Boston, MA; Philadelphia, PA; Hoffman Estates, IL; Wilmington, DE; Raleigh, NC; Charlotte, NC; and New York, NY.

"The American Cancer Society is proud to announce that Siemens has joined our Making Strides Against Breast Cancer National Partners Program," says Alix Shaer, National Director, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer. "Siemens' corporate support, along with their employee participation in multiple Making Strides events across the country, will help the Society raise funds to save lives and create a world with less breast cancer and more birthdays. Making Strides is an event that unites communities to fight back against breast cancer, and we're so pleased to have the commitment of Siemens and its 60,000 US employees to help make strides to end the disease."

"Siemens is committed to developing solutions that help clinicians fight breast cancer, which affected nearly 200,000 new patients in the USA in 2009," said Gregory Sorensen, MD, CEO, Siemens Healthcare in the U.S.A. "Our imaging and treatment solutions allow clinicians to detect disease at the earliest stage and target treatment so that it best suits the individual. This supports Siemens and ACS' shared goal of saving lives and beating this disease."

The American Cancer Society combines an unyielding passion with nearly a century of experience to save lives and end suffering from cancer. As a global grassroots force of more than three million volunteers, we fight for every birthday threatened by every cancer in every community. We save lives by helping people stay well be preventing cancer or detecting it early; helping people get well by being there for them during and after a cancer diagnosis; and by finding cures through investment in groundbreaking discovery; and by fighting back by rallying lawmakers to pass law to defeat cancer and by rallying communities worldwide to join the fight. As the nation's largest non-governmental investor in cancer research, contributing more than $3.5 billion, we turn what we know about cancer into what we do. As a result, more than 11 million people in America who have had cancer and countless more who have avoided it would be celebrating birthdays this year.
