Sochae.com announced today that they will provide 1 million meals to under nourished school children in Jamaica, working through Food For The Poor, the third-largest international relief and development organization in the United States.

The goal of the project is to help children living in rural areas suffering from extreme poverty, fight hunger and malnutrition. The collaboration allows for the creation of more school feeding programs, which have proved to be instrumental in providing a proper diet, fighting against hunger and increasing school attendance by about 15%.

"We are pleased to be working with Food For The Poor providing meals to undernourished school children; a meal is something a child should never go without," said Brigham Coombs, director at Sochae.com. "Our ultimate goal in working with these Caribbean and Latin American countries is to satisfy the immediate need for food, while developing sustainable solutions that permanently address hunger."

The campaign was kicked off when a private donor offered to match every dollar Sochae raises up to $25,000 within 12 months or $35,000 within six. Sochae also pledges to give 100% of all the profits generated from the sale of their eco-friendly apparel to the project, until they reach the goal of 1 million meals.

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations estimates that more than 53 million people in the Caribbean and Latin America suffer from hunger or malnutrition. That number represents 10% of the population.
