The Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy (CECP), a global forum of more than 180 global CEOs and chairpersons focused on raising the level and quality of corporate philanthropy, today announced that Douglas R. Conant, President and CEO of Campbell Soup Company, has been elected as Chairman by CECP's Board of Directors. Mr. Conant succeeds Harold "Terry" McGraw III, Chairman, President and CEO of The McGraw-Hill Companies, who has served as Chairman of CECP since May of 2006.

"It's an honor to be associated with an organization that is so devoted to leveraging free enterprise to help build a better world," said Mr. Conant. "I'm looking forward to working with the staff, the board and all our members to shape and advance the CECP agenda."

Mr. Conant was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Campbell in January 2001, making him the 11th leader in the company's history. He was elected a Director of the company at that time. Under Mr. Conant's leadership, Campbell has reversed a precipitous decline in market value and employee engagement. Campbell also has improved its financial profile and enhanced its relationships with its customers. Mr. Conant and his team have elevated the company's corporate social responsibility profile, enhanced its diversity and inclusion program and expanded the company's world headquarters in Camden, New Jersey, the company's home since 1869. Campbell recently announced plans to reduce childhood obesity and hunger in Camden by 50 percent over the next decade. Campbell's diversity and inclusion efforts are widely recognized, and the company is the recipient of the 2010 Catalyst Award for helping women develop and advance their careers. In September 2010, Mr. Conant announced he will step down in July 2011 after a decade leading the world's top soup maker. Mr. Conant is the co-author, along with Mette Norgaard, of the May 2011 book, TouchPoints: Creating Powerful Leadership Connections in the Smallest of Moments.

"CECP looks forward to the leadership of Doug Conant as Chairman. As the field of corporate engagement in society continues to grow in importance as central to a company's business strategy, we are confident that Doug will strengthen CECP's ability to lead the business community towards better alignment of societal and business goals," said CECP's Executive Director Charles Moore. "Additionally, I'd like to thank Terry McGraw for his exemplary service over the past five years. Under his Chairmanship, CECP's CEO membership has expanded both domestically and globally, our measurement platform has deepened, and we have forged strategic research partnerships, delivering forward-looking executive perspectives which are an invaluable resource to practitioners and CEOs alike."
