Mission Markets(TM) Signals Focus on Fast-Growing Sustainable Agriculture Sector Through Partnership with Food Marketmaker

After recent success in closing transactions on its Sustainable and Impact Investment Platform (SIIP), Mission Markets™ has recently established a key relationship with Food MarketMaker, one of the largest online databases for local state farmers with over 20,000 members. These types of partnerships will likely lead to adoption of the Mission Markets platform by the fast-growing sustainable agriculture sector for its investment and environmental credit transaction needs.

According to the Organic Trade Association, U.S. sales of organic food and beverages have grown from $1 billion in 1990 to $24.8 billion in 2009, while global demand has more than doubled in the past seven years.

"We are very excited about our collaboration with Mission Markets and look forward to introducing their innovative platform to our network of users," says Darlene Knipe, MarketMaker's Co-Founder and National Director. "We think it represents an important intersection between sustainable agriculture and the investment community. The possibilities for this emerging relationship between Mission Markets and Food MarketMaker are endless."

Mission Markets™ also announced early this year a partnership with Slow Money, a nonprofit founded by Woody Tasch that promotes investment in sustainable agriculture. Slow Money has committed to moving its entire network of 2,000 members onto the Mission Markets platform.

"Sustainable Agriculture is a key sector within the impact investment and environmental credit markets and presents a large global opportunity," says Michael Van Patten, Mission Markets Founder and CEO. "We are looking forward to working with Slow Money, Food MarketMaker and other groups to support investment in local sustainable agriculture."

Given that agriculture has a large environmental footprint and can provide many ecosystem services, the sustainable agriculture sector will also be poised to take advantage of the Mission Markets Earth platform for transacting and monetizing environmental credits, biomass units and development and water rights.

Mission Markets™ is the virtual marketplace for stakeholders within the sustainability sector. Mission Markets provides a secure online community where buyers, sellers, service providers, and all participants across the sustainability spectrum can communicate, access industry news and updates, share information, and, most importantly, transact business.

Food MarketMaker is a national partnership of land grant institutions and State Departments of Agriculture dedicated to the development of a comprehensive interactive database of food industry marketing and business data. It is currently one of the most extensive collections of searchable food industry related data in the country. All the information can be mapped and queried by the user.
