WHAT:
In Indonesia, 30 percent of the population lives below the poverty line, and government, industry and environmental groups strive to obtain a balance between social, economic and environmental priorities. Greenspirit Strategies conducted a recent on-the-ground assessment and found that a primary cause of deforestation and habitat loss in the country is poverty. In Sumatra, for example, national migrants are illegally encroaching on forests driven by poverty and the desire to make a better life for their families.

WHO:
Dr. Patrick Moore, chairman and chief scientist at Greenspirit Strategies will answer questions about the report, "Plantation Forestry in Indonesia," in a webinar covering the findings on the true cause of poverty, deforestation and habitat loss, including:

  • His personal experiences and observations of Indonesian poverty, deforestation and sustainability practices.
  • How poverty alleviation is necessary to fight deforestation.
  • How corporate support is essential to the success of biodiversity efforts.
  • How corporate and community partnerships can save the forests.
  • Sustainable forest management practices and examples from the field.
