Today, Adopt-A-Watt® Inc. a Certified B Corporation, announced Philadelphia International Airport's acceptance of their sponsorship program and plans for deploying (52) sponsored solar PV arrays, at the nation's 10th busiest airport.
Sponsorships will completely pay for the solar PV arrays. Revenue raised in excess of the cost of the arrays will be utilized to fund other clean energy projects, through the airport's "Going Green Program" which will further help reduce fossil fuel consumption and operating costs, for PHL.
Sponsors of the PHL solar PV arrays will receive high-profile recognition for their support in the form of an acknowledgement sign attached to the arrays, as well as associated media coverage, awards, etc.
"This action taken by PHL clearly demonstrates their concern for the environment and desire to fully support 21st century energy. We especially appreciate senior management's guidance and direction and look forward to helping them further achieve their clean energy goals," stated Thomas A. Wither, Founder and Principal of the National Adopt-A-Watt® Program.
This plan of action has been developed with the cooperation of many Philadelphia based organizations, including Bittenbender Construction, as well as, Minority and Disabled Enterprise firms, MJK Electric and New Age Distributors. Additionally, the project has benefitted from the active involvement of the Greater Philadelphia Clean Cities Coalition.
"The Greater Philadelphia Clean Cities Program, has supported this initiative from the beginning," stated Director Tony Bandiero, "besides helping us accomplish our mission, this image enhancing project, makes a clean energy statement to all who travel to our city. Using the extra income generated by the project for the airport's 'Going Green Program' will help reduce our dependence on imported petroleum and help improve our air quality. A win, win for all involved."
"Because PHL is one of our nation's busiest airports, I am very pleased to see their involvement in this project," states actress/co-star of the 1980s TV show "Dallas," as well as, upcoming DALLAS: THE NEXT GENERATION and NAAWP Advisory Board member, Linda Gray. "In my work at the UN, I have learned that education is the key to change, and believe we must change, to truly clean and sustainable sources of energy. PHL's action will help raise public awareness of clean energy and hopefully lead to a chain-reaction of participation. Always remember," says Ms. Gray"¦ "the world is not given to us by our parents but is loaned to us by our children."
Sponsoring opportunities are now available at PHL. "NAAWP sponsorship offers a high-profile opportunity to show support for clean energy and the airport," Wither says. He further states, "In addition to offering individuals, foundations and non-profits an impacting and visible means of displaying philanthropy; sponsorship presents an exciting, new, alternative media platform for corporations to benefit the communities they serve while demonstrating 21st century Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and generating favorable, 365 day per year, brand awareness."
About NAAWP - Modeled after the successful Adopt-A-Highway acknowledgment program, the National Adopt-A-Watt® Program gives sponsors community recognition for funding clean energy, alternative fuel and energy-efficiency projects.
The program arranges and coordinates all sponsorship, financing, installation and ongoing maintenance for sponsor-able photo-voltaic displays (SPVD). An SPVD is either a complete .5 kW solar electric system or a solar lighting system. SPVDs uniquely save or generate clean energy and offer a new source of revenue to fund other energy-saving equipment or alternative fuel vehicles and infrastructure.
Sponsorship of SPVDs is arranged via a virtual auction process at the National Adopt-A-Watt® Program website: www.adopt-a-watt.com. This permits global participation and matches sponsor needs with optional locations.
NAAWP is endorsed by many prominent alternative fuel organizations and has the support of (43) Clean Cities coalitions in (22) states.
About PHL - Philadelphia International Airport is one of the busiest airports in the world and among the fastest growing in the United States. Philadelphia International Airport accommodated 32.2 million passengers in 2007 with 499,000 aircraft operations, making PHL the 10th busiest airport in North America.
