Nereida Perez, Vice President for
Inclusion and Diversity at National Grid

National Grid Vice President for Inclusion and Diversity Nereida "Neddy" Perez has been appointed by the Society For Human Resource Management (SHRM) Foundation to the Board of Directors. The SHRM Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that provides funding for research projects that advance the human resource profession.

The Society for Human Resource Management Foundation is a leading funder of human resource research. During the past three years, the Foundation has awarded more than $1.5 million in grants to fund rigorous, original academic research with practical implications for human resource management practice. The Foundation awards $170,000 annually in education and certification scholarships to professional and student SHRM association members and doctoral students.

The Society for Human Resource Management Foundation is an affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management, the world's largest association devoted to human resource management with more than 575 chapters, representing more than 250,000 members in over 140 countries. The SHRM Foundation also provides publications and educational resources for its members and chapter leadership.

"As a young Latina and human resource professional, SHRM and SHRM Foundation resources helped me gain access to the knowledge I needed to fully develop and grow as a human resource professional," Perez said. "Thank goodness for the members of SHRM who have been mentors along the way and helped shape me as a leader. I am truly honored to now have the opportunity to serve as a board member of the Foundation and look forward to helping advance its work in developing human resource professionals around the world," Perez added.

Perez leads National Grid's Inclusion and Diversity efforts in fostering a more inclusive workplace. She is the founder of the Association of Employee Resources Groups (AERG), an organization that provides companies and employee network groups with consulting services and resources that support the implementation of corporate diversity initiatives.

Prior to her current role, Perez served as KPMG LLP's chief diversity officer. She has more than 18 years experience in leading and implementing human resource and diversity initiatives at the national and international level for corporations such as Sodexo, Royal Dutch/Shell and UPS. In addition to her experience in the U.S. Perez has worked in the U.K., the Netherlands and Latin America.

Perez is a globally recognized leader on diversity who serves on the SHRM Special Expertise Panel on Workforce Diversity. She holds a Bachelors Degree in Public Relations from the University of Florida and Masters Degree in HR Management and International Business from Nova Southeastern University.
