LEAD Canada, the Canadian affiliate of Leadership for Environment and Development International, is offering the first US session of its professional development fellow program for people interested in leadership training and sustainable development.

In partnership with the Demming School of Entrepreneurship at the University of Colorado in Boulder, and LEAD International, this 20-day training program will culminate in the International Session in Ottawa, Ontario where participants from the US program will be joined by 200 Associates from 13 member programs around the world. Please visit www.lead.org for more information.

This professional development program will be a unique opportunity. LEAD training is available to mid-career professionals from any sector and participants will be selected to reflect our cross-sectoral and cross-disciplinary approach. Applicants who are accepted into the program will begin the first leg of a journey that results in becoming a LEAD Fellow, at which point they will join the network of over 2,200 LEAD colleagues, worldwide. Cohort 16 is the first US-based offering of this internationally-renowned course.

The theme for the first domestic session in Boulder is 'Sustainable Cities.' This will be held June 5-9, 2011 in Boulder, Colorado. With a focus on transportation and renewable energy, this session will address how urban centres are addressing sustainable development locally. Over the course of the entire training program, participants will learn systems-thinking, communication, interest-based negotiation skills, as well as impart the ability to create and facilitate multi-stakeholder processes. Participants will foster leadership capabilities and a set of tools that can be taken back to business, government, NGO or university work-places and community engagement.

Registration fee is $1,500 (USD) per session. This amount covers the six-day program, training materials, meals and accommodation; individuals are responsible for their own travel costs.

Please see details and application form on the LEAD Canada website, www.leadcanada.net.

If you have any questions you can email secretariat@leadcanada.net or call 1-866-532-3539, ext. 705

Deadline for applications is Monday, March 7th, 2011.

The PDP is aimed at mid-career professionals and is designed to foster the skills needed to deal with global and local sustainability challenges in a cross-sectoral setting. The PDP program is focused on Climate Change and Sustainable Cities and includes national and international training sessions (next: China and South Africa).
