/PRNewswire/ - In early January the Hurston family of Cocoa, Florida - comprised of parents Joe and Cindy along with their children Juliet, Peter, and Dieunika - was contacted by Ty Pennington and the rest of the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition design team and informed that they were the lucky family about to receive a brand new home constructed in under a week's time. The Hurstons, who returned from a charitable relief effort to find their home had been insufferably flood-damaged, were overwhelmed by the great news.
Organizers at Extreme Makeover: Home Edition reached out to local businesses and tradesmen for building supplies. The response they received was nothing short of remarkable community support from Florida's Space Coast, Brevard County and surrounding areas of Central Florida including one local paint company based in Orlando.
Color Wheel Paint, a local paint store well known to the community of Central Florida, generously donated over 300 gallons of interior and exterior paint totaling nearly $3,000 in both paint and supplies to the Space Coast build. Color Wheel first heard of the project through one of its longstanding customers, Southern Colors, located in Melbourne, Florida. Southern Colors operated as one of the primary painters involved in the week-long mission to create a new home for the Hurston family.
On January 26 Color Wheel Paint, alongside Jacksonville Beach-based paint contractor Chris Moreland of C.M. Painting, Inc, stepped in to join the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition team for another Florida project creating a new home for a local volleyball coach and three sisters residing in the Jacksonville area. When the parents of sisters Ashley, Taylor and Gina Brewer passed away, 18-year-old Ashley's volleyball coach, Carrie Prewitt, took on more than just a coaching role and became the girls' legal guardian, taking all three sisters into her home. The Prewitt-Brewer family was treated to a vacation in the Virgin Islands while the makeover design team worked diligently to construct the family's home in just one week.
Color Wheel reveled at the opportunity to aid in the creation of a beautiful new home for the Prewitt-Brewer family, donating over 200 gallons of interior and exterior paint--a donation inclusive of the paint company's newest premium interior line of paint, Private Estate. The Private Estate product line is Color Wheel Paint's most elite line of interior paint. This particular line provides one-coat hiding, creating ease-of-application for volunteers at the build site.
"We've now participated in three makeover builds and each one has been an eye-opening experience to the huge achievements that a community can accomplish when uniting for a common cause. Color Wheel Paint believes in supporting those in need and it feels great to know we are positively impacting local communities in Florida through working with Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," said Mike Davis, Area Vice President for Color Wheel Paint in North Florida. "For over 50 years Color Wheel has been heavily involved in supplying coatings to the new home construction market, partnering with builders regionally to build homes, not houses. We look forward to serving our local communities for the next 50 years."
