/PRNewswire/ - Teva Pharmaceuticals, in collaboration with the Philadelphia Eagles, today announced that it has awarded four grants totaling $125,000 to Philabundance, Students Run Philly Style, Twilight Wish Foundation and The Miracle League of Northampton Township, as part of the company's ongoing commitment to supporting local organizations in the Greater Philadelphia area.

These organizations are being awarded these grants in recognition of going above and beyond to advocate for the individual communities they serve, their alignment with Teva's values and culture, and the opportunity for employee involvement.

Following is information on the recipients and details on the specific grants:

  • Philabundance, the region's largest hunger relief organization fighting hunger and malnutrition in the Delaware Valley, works hard to provide relief for more than 65,000 individuals a week. Philabundance will use the grant from Teva to underwrite the cost of two Fresh for All sites located in Souderton and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Fresh For All is similar to a traveling farmer's market and provides free produce to those that need it most. In the 2010 fiscal year, the Fresh For All program distributed 2.5 million pounds of produce to 7500 people per week.

  • Students Run Philly Style channels its efforts towards improving the health and well-being of over 2,000 Philadelphia youth through running. Students Run Philly Style helps its youth develop lifelong healthy behaviors, improve academic performance and encourage good decision making by partnering them with adult mentors who train with them to complete a full or half marathon. The organization will use the grant from Teva to support a 25 person team for an entire season with gear, transportation and participation in competitions, academic support, leadership development and general healthcare.

  • Twilight Wish Foundation, a locally-headquartered national charitable organization that grants wishes to deserving seniors in the community, was selected for its dedication to honoring and enriching the lives of deserving elders through wish-granting. In addition to the initial grant, Teva will match the amount raised through fundraising efforts by the Philadelphia School District's Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC). The money will be used to fulfill simple-need wishes for veterans in appreciation of their years of service to our country. Members of the Eagles team (Swoop, cheerleaders and a player) will attend and participate in the wish-granting event.

  • The Miracle League of Northampton Township, a baseball and softball league for children with physical and mental disabilities, is best known for its dedication to ensuring children with special needs have a fun, safe environment to be active and socialize with others. The organization will use the grant from Teva to fund construction of the Northampton Township Miracle League Field, a specially designed sports complex which, upon completion, will include a custom-designed rubberized surface field, wheelchair accessible dugouts and a completely flat surface to eliminate any barriers to wheelchair-bound or visually impaired players.

"It is our privilege to work with these great organizations," said Denise Bradley, senior director corporate communications, Teva North America. "In conjunction with our partnership with the Eagles, we are able to provide support to those in the Greater Philadelphia Area who are making a difference in our community every day."

"Teva's desire to make a difference in the community is a part of its core mission. Our community partnership and the impact of making a positive difference will be felt for years to come," said Pamela Browner White, senior vice president of public affairs and government relations for the Philadelphia Eagles.

Teva Pharmaceuticals announced a five-year partnership with the Philadelphia Eagles at the start of the 2009 NFL season. Last year, the two organizations worked together on four projects, including Family Starting Line-Ups, the Community Red Zone, the Eagles Science Scholarship and the Eagles Community Quarterback Award. Eagles fans and Philadelphia natives can look forward to future community initiatives sponsored by Teva and the Eagles as part of their efforts to spread awareness about organizations and individuals that are making a difference in the community every day.
