Criteria used in the certification assessment included ab.editing's work with nonprofit organizations, its environmentally friendly policies, and its choice of socially responsible suppliers.

All Certified B Corporations (the B stands for "Benefit") must meet rigorous standards of social and environmental performance. Unlike traditional corporations, Certified B Corporations are legally required to consider the impact of their decisions on their employees, suppliers, community, consumers, and environment.

This year, two states enacted legislation recognizing B Corporations as a new corporate structure category, and several other states are considering doing so. There are currently more than 300 Certified B Corporations representing $1.1 billion in collective revenues.
