/PRNewswire/ - Baby Buggy, a non-profit organization founded in 2001 by Jessica Seinfeld, recently launched a year-long partnership with Target to expand upon the charity's mission of helping underprivileged families in need. The partnership offers Target guests an exclusive Baby Buggy line of affordable baby essentials and also facilitates the donation of basic necessities from select Target vendors to families living in poverty. Avent, The Boppy Company and Huggies will donate $25,000 quarterly - totaling $300,000 for the year.
"Partners like Target enable Baby Buggy to keep improving the lives of families and children who are truly in need," said Jessica Seinfeld. "Target shares our mission and our commitment to the communities we serve. We are proud to work with them and grateful for their support."
Through these donations, Baby Buggy will serve partner sites in seven cities, beginning in New York City with America's Next Top Model judge Nigel Barker delivering donations to Little Sisters of the Assumption in Harlem. Other partner sites include Harlem Children's Zone in New York City; Head Start programs in D.C., Chicago, Atlanta, and Minneapolis; and Nurse Family Partnership sites in Los Angeles and Dallas. The sites were chosen due to their location in urban neighborhoods with high child poverty rates, ease of product distribution and demonstrated impact on families in need. Fifty percent of infants and toddlers in urban areas in the United States live in low-income families.
"According to the US Census Bureau report released yesterday, we are seeing the largest number of Americans living in poverty since tracking began 51 years ago. The fact that one in five American children lives in poverty is deeply upsetting to the Baby Buggy staff," said Baby Buggy's Executive Director Katherine Snider. "Despite this bad news, our spirits are lifted by the generosity of supporters like Target, Avent, The Boppy Company, and Huggies. Baby Buggy is more motivated than ever to provide parents with the basic tools they need to keep their children healthy and safe."
During September, Baby Buggy will distribute the following products: 3,000 BPA-free 4 ounce bottles, 3,000 weaning spoons and 336 teethers from Avent; 1,050 Boppy pillows along with 366 changing pad sets from The Boppy Company; and 836 cases of Huggies diapers (approximately 103,900 diapers).
The Baby Buggy collection at Target features exclusively designed baby items by several talented designers. The first limited edition collection set in stores in July and features apparel designs by Maira Kalman and exclusively designed diaper bags by Petunia Pickle Bottom. Over the course of the year-long partnership, Baby Buggy will team up with other renowned designers to create new, signature baby items. Ten percent of the purchase price from the Target Baby Buggy collection will go to support Baby Buggy's efforts.* Target has a long history of supporting communities across the country. Since 1946, the company has given 5 percent of its income to support education, the arts, social services and volunteerism. Today, that giving equals more than $3 million a week.
*10% of purchase price of Baby Buggy product will be donated to Baby Buggy with a $300,000 minimum donation to $500,000 maximum donation.
