More for Mission, based at the Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations at Harvard University, has announced that its membership now includes 75 foundations that represent approximately $30 billion in total assets.

More for Mission is an association of foundations dedicated to broadly promoting mission investing and encouraging additional foundations - private, community and corporate - to take up mission investing practices. Mission investing involves aligning a portion of a foundation's endowment assets with its mission, while maintaining long-term targeted financial returns.

Since its inception in September 2008, More for Mission has grown dramatically and now includes a Leaders Circle comprised of 50 foundations active in mission investing and a Members Circle made up of 25 foundations just starting out in the practice. Foundations in the network are able to draw upon a wealth of experience to answer questions, seek resources, including access to investable opportunities, and engage with like-minded foundations large and small. More for Mission encourages foundations to join its network at no cost to learn more about mission investing opportunities and learning forums.

One benefit of membership is the opportunity to network with other foundations involved in mission investing. Toward that end, On September 21, More for Mission is hosting its first annual conference at the Harvard Kennedy School for foundation members and other interested foundations.

According to Lisa Hagerman, Director of More for Mission, the conference will be an invaluable forum for information sharing on mission investing.

Conference speakers will include executives and trustees from a range of foundations as well as investment intermediaries. Sandra Urie, President and CEO of Cambridge Associates, will serve as keynote speaker. Topics to be addressed include: delivering returns,
relationships with consultants, building internal capacity, and innovative products across asset classes.
