/PRNewswire/ - Dr. Richard Merkin, President and CEO of Heritage Provider Network is pleased to announce that the Regal Medical Group, part of the HPN family, has coordinated a fundraising effort through their employees for the flood victims in Pakistan. The monies raised will be donated through the Red Cross for the immediate relief to those affected in Pakistan.
According to the UN, the floods have disrupted the lives of nearly 20 million people; one out of 9 people are in need, nearly 8 percent of the total population. Many are living in muddy camps or overcrowded government buildings, nearly 8 million people need immediate emergency aid, while thousands more are sleeping in the open next to their cows, goats and whatever possessions they managed to drag with them. The UN says more flood surges may be on the way. Going by the numbers of people affected, the disaster is worse than the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2005 Kashmir earthquake and the 2010 Haiti earthquake combined.
"It's critically important that we support people in this time of need," said Dr. Merkin, President and CEO of HPN. "Our hearts and prayers go out to the victims of this disaster, we recognize their basic survival needs and I'm pleased our employees are responding in kind."
Heritage Provider Network has responded charitably to the victims in Haiti suffering from the devastating earthquake, the Chilean earthquake and also the disastrous earthquake in Italy last spring.
