Michelle Nunn, CEO of Points of Light Institute and co-founder of HandsOn Network, is receiving the inaugural Global Ambassador of Youth Award tonight from the New Look Foundation, founded by Usher Raymond IV. The award will be presented in Atlanta at a star-studded gala, whose honorary co-chairs are Usher and former President William Clinton.

The award honors the efforts and resources Nunn has devoted to inspiring, equipping, and mobilizing young people, enabling them to transform their communities by volunteering in causes they believe in. First at HandsOn Atlanta, which she founded on a shoestring with a dozen friends in order to take volunteering to new levels, and then at HandsOn Network and Points of Light Institute, she has dedicated much of her work to elevating the voices, leadership, and success of youth.

"I am continually awed by the power of youth to transform the world," said Michelle Nunn. "Through my work with Points of Light Institute, I have the privilege of seeing firsthand how young people are changing the world every day. Through our work with GenerationOn, we are supporting this growing movement and helping millions of young people discover and act upon their power to make a difference. This honor is a wonderful recognition of these young people."

"I am honored to share the stage with the individuals and organizations we are acknowledging for their recognition of youth as leaders," said Usher Raymond IV. Michelle Nunn "shares New Look's understanding that youth are not merely leaders in waiting; they are ready to achieve greatness today."

Through its generationOn division, Points of Light Institute is a leader in teaching young people about volunteerism and mobilizing them in action projects to make a difference. GenerationOn is the nation's largest youth volunteer action network; it harnesses the energy, ingenuity, and compassion of young people, beginning at an early age, to discover their power to solve real-world problems through service and service learning. Partnering with youth, students, families, schools, educators, nonprofits and corporations, generationOn not only gives kids the opportunity to see firsthand the issues in their communities and around the globe, but also gives them the tools they need to respond and become part of the solution.

The New Look Foundation mentors young people as global leaders, and has worked with more than 8,700 youth in seven cities so far. Its gala award event features teen sensation Justin Bieber, Ciara, and Usher. Among the other awards presented will be the Service Legacy Award to President William Clinton.

Points of Light Institute inspires, equips and mobilizes people to take action that changes the world. The Institute has a global focus to redefine volunteerism and civic engagement for the 21st century, putting people at the center of community problem-solving. It is organized to innovate, incubate and activate new ideas that help people act upon their power to make a difference. Points of Light Institute operates dynamic business units that share our mission: HandsOn Network, MissionFish and the Civic Incubator, which includes generationOn and AmeriCorps Alums.
