The Dannon Company, Inc., recently released its 2009 Corporate Social Responsibility Report. The report highlights the dynamic steps the corporation has taken to reinforce its core values of Nutrition & Health, Nature and People.

Dannon's corporate mission is to bring health to the greatest number of people across America through its products' benefits. "For Dannon responsibility goes far beyond the business of producing wholesome yogurt products," said Gustavo Valle, Dannon's President and CEO in a recent case study by the Harvard Business Review. "It is a privilege to be an active partner in providing families with the tools and information they need to live healthier lives."

As a subsidiary of one of the world's largest health-focused food company, Danone, and with a mission of bringing health through food to as many people as possible, Dannon has the will power and the way to make a difference. A copy of the 2009 Corporate Social Responsibility Report can be found at www.dannon.com.

The 2009 CSR report outlines activities within each of Dannon's three core values, which include:

Nutrition and Health

At an individual level Dannon is committed to providing products that benefit the consumer. Ensuring that nutritional information and claims are communicated consistently and in friendly terms, Dannon strives to help consumers make nutritious and delicious food decisions.

Dannon is passionate about nutrition education and works on multiple levels, to improve and initiate conversations on children's nutrition education. Engaging children and their families at a community level, Dannon utilizes the Dannon Next Generation Nutrition® grant program to help children understand the importance of healthy eating habits and being physically active. The grants, which Dannon has offered since 2006, help organizations provide childhood nutrition education programs within each of the four states where Dannon has its headquarters or a plant.

Dannon has also voluntarily committed to limit the products that it advertises to children and offers in schools. Dannon participates in the Children's Food and Beverage Advertising Initiative (CFBAI), which requires corporations to limit advertising to children under the age of 12 to only "better for you" food choices.

Nature

Dannon has taken a closer look at its energy consumption, packaging, manufacturing, and business behaviors and has taken significant steps to reduce its carbon footprint. In 2009 alone, Dannon decreased its overall carbon footprint by 10%.

With an overall goal of improving packaging efficiency, Dannon sets new packaging reduction goals each year, and since 2004, has reduced the quantity of its primary packaging on a per ounce basis by 20%. Dannon has also re-invented how it makes many of its cups and bottles and saves fuel by producing certain cups and bottles only feet away from where they are filled.

Dannon works to ensure that its actions reflect its value and commitment to the environment. Working to receive most of its fresh milk from local milk producers close to its plants, Dannon reduces transportation emissions pre-production. Dannon is also working to increase the variety of products manufactured at each plant. Greater varieties means less distance traveled to transport specific types of Dannon products to distant grocers. Additionally, Dannon's largest yogurt plant in Minster, Ohio, also the largest yogurt plant in the United States, has initiated a state of the art waste water treatment approach.

People

Dannon believes in growing together with its employees. With wellness programs, fitness classes and overall open corporate communications, Dannon is an example of employee success. With scholarships available for children of employees, adoption assistance programs and a 1 to 1 matching gift policy, Dannon is showing that it stands behind the goals and values of its employees. All of these efforts to further employee satisfaction have allowed Dannon to pursue its responsibilities beyond the business of producing wholesome yogurt.
