Maclean's, a leading Canadian news magazine released their Top 50 Socially Responsible Corporations for 2010 report. Direct Energy, a leading Canadian energy company was included for the first time in Maclean's Top 50 annual ranking.

Direct Energy was recognized for programs such as the 2010 Volunteer Challenge where the company challenged their employees across North America to log 10,000 volunteer hours for the year; their commitment to energy efficiency technology through the development and piloting of smart home energy management systems; and leadership in carbon disclosure through their contribution to Centrica's annual Carbon Disclosure Project submission.

The rankings and selections were generated by Maclean's/Jantzi-Sustainalytics which evaluates companies operating in Canada across a broad range of environmental, social and governance indicators. Methodology included selecting companies that are leaders in demonstrating strong performance in areas such as environmental initiatives, impact on local communities, treatment of employees and supply-chain management. Some are recognized for their development of products or services that contribute directly to sustainability.

The recognition is the result of Direct Energy's continuing commitment to use their energy expertise to make a difference in people's lives by enhancing how we understand and manage our environmental and social impacts.
